What exactly is water restoration?

Sherrie Howe • Nov 06, 2020

Summerville, do you know what Water Restoration is?

In short, water restoration means to clean up the damage caused from water by means of water removal, water remediation, water mitigation, water extraction or flood cleanup. In many cases, these terms all mean the same thing. Different disaster cleanup companies use different terms.

Complete water restoration means to remove the water, dispose of porous materials when needed, clean, dry and disinfect the affected areas and structures and restore them back to the condition they were in prior to the water damage.

Water Removal is the process of removing the water from damaged areas using equipment such as high-powered truck mounted water removal pumps, professional grade humidifiers and high velocity air circulators.

Water Remediation is the same as Water Restoration, meaning the complete cleanup and restoration of the damaged area.

Water Mitigation is the process of reversing or preventing the damage caused by the water entering the building. It also just means the removal or whole water cleaning process.

Water Extraction is the same process as water removal. Extraction is sometimes referred to as removing water from an outside environment.

Flood Cleanup means the outside water has moved inside along with all the contaminants it carries. You really need a professional restoration company to remove this water properly to prevent injury and/or illness.

Professionals know how to clean up the damage and do it much more quickly and efficiently than homeowners. You are comparing days to hours when it comes to professional water removal and by delaying the cleanup time, you could be creating irreversible damage to your property.

Even after the initial cleanup, there are important issues to address such as moisture damage, bacteria lurking in the water that flooded your home that may now be taking up residence, and creating the perfect conditions for mold growth. All of these three conditions can lead to serious health issues and illness if not properly restored.

If you suffer water damage of any kind, it’s best to call a water damage restoration professional. Almost all water restoration companies will restore homes and businesses. It better to be safe than sorry when it comes to the health of you, your family, co-workers or customers.
